Just some brief thoughts about Journey's End, in retrospect, and in response to general fan opinion.

Spoilers, naturally.

So. A LOT of people are ragging on 10.5 for the whole...killing of Daleks thing. Even people who like him. Frankly, I think its completely ridiculous. Here we have an entire empire of pure Daleks, more than capable of destroying the Doctor if they catch him off guard, and fully intending on destroying not just one world or one civilization, but the whole of existence.

Every universe, every world, every time line. Everything gone in the blink of an eye purely because they can. This is mass genocide on a scale never even considered in their universe before. There was only one option. Sooner or later he'd have to destroy them, and the longer he took, the more innocent lives would be lost.

Last time he refused to destroy them when he got the chance, the Time Lords paid the price. There are no more Time Lords to wage war on behalf of the universe. The Doctor would never take them from the Time Lock, either.

The fact is, in the end, he'd have to do exactly what Ten.Two did. He'd just waste time, trying to convince a madman that will never ever be convinced, and possibly have lost his chance. Ten knows this. He's done it before. He's just being a little twit about it because of Davros' mind games, and because he wanted an excuse to put them there.

Ten.2 is NOT a genocidal maniac, and neither was Nine. They did what had to be done. They didn't like it, but they knew they had to, and they didn't hesitate and risk more lives.

Stop bashing on him! He's still the Doctor, and he's not insane or any more dangerous than our Doctor.

The real question you have to ask yourself here, is why its okay for him to be half human (re-half, apparently), but not anyone else.

I so agree! It had to be done! Letting the daleks live would have been like letting them destroy the whole universe! Maybe a new Time war!

You get exposition and a fucked up Saxons icon because I'm becoming re-obsessed with them, their porn ficlet just hit 15 pages, and I have been out and about since 9 AM and just got home at 1 AM.

*CLEARS THROAT*

The Doctor has always been a self-flagellating moron. He has an excuse to take it out on himself again, and lo, there's 10.2, a sitting duck that feels exactly the same way and can afford to be punished for it without having to run around the universe saving everything.

BUT, it is noteworthy that 10.2 didn't seem to hesitate all that much. True, it needed to be done, but he seemed pretty quick on the draw with the Kill All Of Them bit. Both are war criminals according to Earth standards - big, glaring, genocidal (xenocidal?) war criminals - no matter how much it saved.

Since it's Who, though, my stance is that the Doctor will always have one of the guiltiest consciences ever, and they were both grateful to find some sort of punishment to inflict on themselves (even if it's not much of one).

I think, honestly, a lot of his verbal assaults on 10.2 stem from marrying the fact that he was angry over the genocide (That, no matter how you look at it, had to happen. They were already dead, and were pulled out of time into a paradox) and he was giving 10.2 everything he wanted.

IOW - Genocide = Rewarded with Rose. So that's why, I think, 10 went out of his way to talk about him like that. Of course, there's the self loathing and such worked in, too, definitely.

Still, doesn't give fandom an excuse to team up on him. The Doctor isn't, and except for a brief spell in his third regeneration, has never been subject to Earth standards.

I want to see this ficlet. I love the Saxons.

I really do think that the Doctor sees Rose as the only person who'd understand and help him through everything post-genocide the second, since she more or less did it for 9.

And yet again, apparently I don't know a damn thing about Who fandom, since I didn't even know that was happening! GO ME! \o/

I should warn you that The Master is...um. Himself. Which means he is insane and went back/forward in time to kiss himself for their entertainment. And there's messed up vindictive voyeur stuff on the Valiant. It's not...well okay, it's pretty due to actor/actress, but not pleasant.
