Indiscretion
It was just a minor indiscretion. You didn't worry about cold sweats and hot tears. You don't talk about what you cling to when the night feels dead and everything you love has abandoned you to a terrifying fate. When you hide in his arms just to drown out the screams of the dying, you don't worry about should-haves. When he kisses away your tears just to forget the ones sticking to his cheeks, and its never felt so right to bury the memories in heat and temporary warmth, you never let yourself take the blame.
You don't care to remember things you never meant to say, what you never meant at all. After all, what is one minor indiscretion when the world around you is burning, and the only one who can save you is drowning in his own nightmares?
When he shows up on your doorstep, soaking wet with more than the rain, shivering for more than the cold, you don't turn him away. You don't say a thing. You never say anything, because it was never worth words in the first place. It's just a minor indiscretion.
You smile unblinkingly when the one you love searches for an answer, because there isn't anything to say. It was never important enough to bear mentioning. You don't feel guilt when innocent eyes twinkle up at you, and you never flinch under her gaze. There was never really anything to hide.
You never bother to keep your smiles from lingering just a little too long. You never consider why he holds your hand so tightly, never wonder why he keeps coming back. You never remember the time before, because who remembers such incidental things? They were never important to begin with.
Explaining why he's the only one who can fight off nightmares has never been a priority or yours. It wasn't like it mattered. It wasn't as if they would care. You don't mind the insignificant details, so why should they?
After all, who could judge one silly little indiscretion?

AN: Yea, generally set some time before or after the epilogue, but the first two paragraphs are set over the christmas holidays.
