Causality

Part 2

He'd never time traveled before. He had stopped time once or twice--it had been the strangest feeling he had ever experienced...it felt as if his every atom were fighting against him. Like it was out of place with the world, and trying to slip back in...or be eliminated.

This...was entirely different. It was like a cold pack of ice had been dumped directly into his lungs for the short moment he was traveling. It vanished the moment he stumbled into 'time' again, but he hated the thought of having to travel long distance.

Hiro grabbed his shoulders cautiously, frowning. "Are you alright?"

He coughed and nodded, feeling a newfound grudging respect for the smaller man. "Yeah...just a bit unexpected there."

Hiro nodded solemnly. "It gets better."

"I hope so."

The man opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off from a crash in the other room. Peter frowned at the fact that he had somehow landed in an ajoining room, before rushing to burst through the doors.

His brother was suspended against the wall by an invisible force, straining to get leverage enough to fight back against it. Sylar stood on the other side of the room, head turned at the disturbance Peter had caused.

He smiled in surprise. "You....?"

He ground his teeth in anger, feeling a rush of powers he could not even identify flashing through him. "Leave my brother alone."

The world wavered, and he blinked, as Sylar laughed. Hiro appeared beside him, sword drawn.

"You...are Sylar!" Hiro announced, his voice held only a hint of the uncertainty glimmering in his eyes. "I am here to fight you!"

Sylar stared at him for a few moments, before shaking his head. "Wait your turn."

Nathan grimaced as he was pushed farther into the wall. Peter found no difficulty in summoning the anger that was required to rip Sylar's grip away from Nathan, and send it back at the killer.

A spike of pain lanced through him as the man went crashing through a wall, and for an infintesmal moment, he could feel that same coldness that he had felt while traveling.

Not yet...Not until Nathan was saved.

His body screamed in pain as he forced the coldness away. "We'll see who's bigger than who, won't we?"

Hiro glanced over at him in askance, sword held cautiously before him. The man hadn't moved from his spot yet.

"Hiro. Get Nathan out of here."

"Where?"

"Anywhere."

"But..if I do that, time--"

"Hiro!" He glared at the man for a few moments, before sighing. "Hiro...please."

The oriental man grimaced for a long moment, before mumbling something in Japanese, and darting toward his brother. The world convulsed, and he vanished with a yelp just as Nathan reached up a hand.

"Damn it!" Peter hissed, whirling from where his brother was brushing himself off to the direction Sylar had gone. He should have expected Sylar to be standing there.

As it was, he only barely caught himself before crashing into a window. The older man wore a deranged smirk as he advanced, increasing the telekenetic force, inching Peter further and further toward the window and the plummet beyond. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Nathan crouched, fighting against a similar force pushing him downward.

It was sad that Sylar did not even seem strained by this multitasking.

"I think I'll deal with you first, and then with your delicious ability, I'm going to treat your brother to every single one of your 'friends' talents."

The world was trembling, shimmering, shaking. His body pulled outward like some creature was trying to force its way out from inside him. He could feel the cold and the darkness closing with every step Sylar took--he was going to fail...and not only was he going to fail, but he was going to give himself up as well.

"Peter!"

He was faintly certain he could hear something shatter within him as he screamed, ripping through the telekinetic wall to latch onto Sylar.

The last thing he saw before the ice filled his lungs, and the world around him exploded was the wide eyes of Sylar gaping back at him in shock.

AN: >.> Yus. Not as good a chapter this time. *cough* but I'd originally considered skipping this part entirely anyway.

I like this a lot. You paint a very clear picture, and I always love Peter and Sylar facing off.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it, I was worried about the imagery in this chapter.
